Author/Composer Water Mark Signature…

So I have been building a Beat Note App file dedicated online membership site for all the music I’ve been writing inside beat note (Derick I’ve told you this before and plan to schedule a meeting with you finally very soon!) and I’m about to launch it within the next couple of weeks or so finally! The thing that is pressing me and will for anyone else who plans to sell Beat Note content independently in the future on their own personal webstore or membership site is that we obviously have no way to copyright the material inside the app nor protect it in anyway. The reality is that the beauty of Beat Note App is that we have the freedom to edit files which is simply just precious. The problem is that anyone can literally share beat note files that they purchased from a webstore or whatever with anyone and anytime. I personally have not been able to figure out a way to protect my product links in any way to prevent endless sharing (people please propose any ideas if you have them!) but honestly it’s not even my biggest concern at this point. The actual sharing of my paid content is not a big deal to me anymore as it’s likely to happen a little bit no matter what you try to do. My REAL concern is about someone taking credit for my files and even trying to re-sell them if they truly wanted to invest that time (still not easy). But even more so I just want my works to point to me and my website ultimately so anyone using my beats no almost for a fact at the very least whom actually created this. So this way someone can still recreate what I’ve created (which fundamentally I think is fair game actually) but they simply can’t share my file and take credit for it and pretend they made it. This is why I think we need to be able to embed some sort of WATER MARK into each file. I’m not sure even suggesting an image. I’m actually just suggesting adding a composer text box near the beat tittle text box that can ONLY BE EDITED ON YOUR DEVICE. If shared and downloaded on another device other users will NOT be able to change this. Your author/composer title will be engraved in all of your files when viewed. This would be a fabulous way to get around copyrighting limitations by still allowing us to secure credit for our work so when it’s shared people can clearly see who the author is and search for that. Maybe even a spot for not only “author title” but “author website”. Being able to credit our work I think needs to be implemented very soon especially for anyone trying to sell their work but even for someone teaching with it. Currently our files just show blank no accreditation to an author. This is really significant. Accreditation HAS to be embedded and not be able to be edited. This is the best solution I’ve come up with for a built-in app solution to protect user’s works. Any thoughts or any additional ideas anyone?

Hi Jesse Rolland, if we have not interacted on the roadmap it’s nice to meet you. I’ve been helping Derek on this platform and organizing all the requests, bugs, etc.
I’m glad you brought this up as I have been working towards similar goals in selling my content.
Let’s break this down so that others can find the main points and if necessary I can create another post so we can get some votes started.
The goal is to protect and to give credit for our work. From what I gathered here:
- Be able to Add our own watermarks.
- Be able to add some sort of author or website link (at some point maybe both). For example at the bottom of the pdf.
- Have the ability to lock our beats/links from being edited.
Let me know if I understood everything correctly.
Regarding the rest of your questions I would email Derek and set up that meeting.
Great feedback and ideas. Keep them coming.

Kevin Jimenezyeah that is a really good summary list! Sorry I try to include as much detail as possible! You added being able to lock the entire beat as well… Hmmmm that would very interesting. This all brings up great debate because in terms of selling traditionally speaking I guess it would be ideal to be able to export with everything locked for “view only”? Like yeah that actually makes a lot of sense. If we have our accredition locked in then I guess the whole beat should be locked in too so that it makes what we are selling legitimate. I suppose it would be good to have this feature optional because I do see the value of being able to edit shared beats. However I’m just wondering what we would all use as a default. Like would I ever allow editing if it’s a beat I’m selling? I guess probably not? Well actually maybe? Come to think certain things I would want customers and people to edit. That’s what makes beat note so awesome!!! I suppose when people edit you can always restore to the original beat in the download tab. But yes the option to lock everything for view only or not would be awesome!

Kevin Jimenez’ as far as the author title stuff goes… I’m thinking just being able to type in your composer title/alias whatever you go by makes the most sense. Adding an image as a custom watermark I see all kinds of issues with. We have limited real estate to work with on a phone as well! It would be ideal to have the composer title and maybe even the website be displayed at the top and digitally…not just when you print it. For sure the composer title. Maybe even just a little display box pop out you could click on title “Details” or “info”. This actually might be the way to do it! So let me break it down. Since we have limited space…imagine this. Let’s say there is a little “Beat Info” tab or something where you can insert all of your accreditation info whatever we decide and it will show a little icon up top somewhere by the title. However when you print the beat it will show this information on the document in the traditional places you would expect. Just some ideas. I just want it to show up very clearly so if I am selling it the user can identify I’m the creator/author/composer immediately and clearly. That’s all.

Jesse Rolland thanks for the explanations. Two things I want to ask from you.
Are you doing this all on your iPhone or iPad? Cause I use the iPad and adding a watermark (if the feature is added) wouldn’t be such an issue on that screen. But I can understand if it’s on an iPhone.
2nd: if you can take the time to show where you imagine it. For example take some screenshots and mark it up with where you want the author title etc. that really helps to visualize what you are thinking. For everything that you talked about.

Kevin Jimenezyeah I will take screenshots. I do Beat Note on my iPhone 15 and the latest iPad 10th generation. I upgraded to both last fall :). So I do my work primarily on the iPad and have mirrored my library onto the iPhone mostly. I definitely try to think about how these features will look and function on both devices when I’m requesting features. So yeah all of this would fit easily anywhere from the iPad perspective but from the iPhone perspective yes…a little bit more limited. I will figure out where I’d like the place of all of these things regardless whether or not they all get added or not and send screenshots soon! Thanks!

“Author website” would be great to have as I suggested as well because I can only imagine that at some point more and more users will want to sell their content from this app. Best Note is built for users selling their work from it. So being able to link to your website of choice where you sell your work would be huge. Now it’s a built-in add! Derick I would love to hear more from you in terms of your ideas with Best Note App going forward regarding selling, e-commerce, file protection, and etc. maybe when we finally have that meeting we will discuss more…
