Currently, Beat Note uses mathematical spacing, where note durations are rendered with exact proportional width. This is ideal when editing a measure because it allows the sequencer grid to align precisely with the music notation, helping users understand which notes correspond to which grid beats. However, in non-editing contexts (such as when viewing the full score, playing back a beat, or exporting to PDF), this strict proportionality can result in excessive white space and awkward page breaks making the music harder to read. This feature request proposes adding support for natural compressed spacing, which is the standard in published sheet music. Instead of using strict mathematical ratios, note durations would be spaced more compactly, yet still clearly reflect rhythmic proportions. This enhances readability by: Giving longer notes some extra space, but not in direct proportion to duration. Ensuring short rhythms are easier to scan visually. Preventing uneven and inefficient use of space, especially for long measures. This spacing style is more familiar to musicians and makes notation significantly easier to read when not in editing mode.
