I’ve thought about this too, and there are definitely places where constraints could be added. For example, should users be allowed to place more than two hand notes on the same beat?

At the same time, drumming has lots of edge cases. Some players use two sticks in one hand, or even play two pedals (like the hi-hat and bass drum) simultaneously with a single foot. That raises the bigger question: where should the software enforce “realistic” constraints, and where should it allow freedom for creativity and unique playing styles? 🤔

For now, I think it’s too early in Beat Note’s lifecycle to take on this level of complexity. It would require a significant amount of work, and I believe there are higher-priority improvements that should to be focused on first. My feeling is: if constraints like this become a real need for the community, they’ll resurface down the road, and we can tackle them when they do.
