Nested triplets

Hello Derek! I had updated the “ability to subdivide each beat into triplets and even partials” but for some reason I can’t click into that post “sorry something went wrong” - it felt too meta to need to raise a bug on the roadmap platform 🤣 - annnny way. I think my question / request is the same as that post but my drum vocabulary isn’t quite there to describe it. In my own words I want to be able to nest triplets into a straight 16th subdivision.
Or, for example, the notation tools available to score the intro to the black parade by my chemical romance.
“One, two te ta, three, four te ta, one, two te ta, three te ta, four te ta…”

Hi Neil Thompson and thanks for your feedback on subdivisions! I'm not sure what happened when you tried to comment on the existing "subdivide each beat into triplets and even partials" request and I'm sorry you encountered an issue. This roadmap is made possible by the kind and diligent team at Canny, so if you encountered an issue you might be able to share that directly with them or maybe it already popped up on their radar and maybe they resolved it. 🤷🏻
As far as supporting the intro for The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, Beat Note already supports this by using the 16th note triplet subdivision in 4/4 time.
This existing request: https://roadmap.beat-note.app/feature-requests/p/ability-to-subdivide-each-beat-into-triplets-and-even-partials is more-so for allowing two 16th notes followed by a 16th note triplet, and that rhythm is not present in the song you mentioned.
Here's a beat link with how I believe the intro to the song can be written in Beat Note (just a single measure of the main theme). Could you please play this back and let me know if this matches your expectations? Thanks!

Now there are different ways to write this rhythm, and the way Beat Note is rendering this, while musically accurate and correct based on music notation standards, is not the most common way to write this in drumset notation. I have plans to improve the rendering of this particular phrase to be an 8th note + a three-note 16th note triplet in the near future.
Let me know if this helps. Thanks Neil Thompson! Best, Derek

Derek Lee you’re a wonderful human! Thank you for the swift response. You’re describing perfectly what I was trying to achieve (an 8th note followed by three 16ths) I have another beat that needs the opposite (three 16ths then an 8th) and it’s not initiative on how to do that. Especially as an early learner!
I wonder if in the placement of a note - when you long press you can have a box that says how far it’s from the previous note and maybe a nudge left or right by increments of the smallest subdivision?
E.g first nudge is a demisemiquaver, then 16th, then 16th triplet, then 8th then 8th triplet etc
At least with a tidy ‘nudge note’ button you won’t have to redesign the main grid subdivision ux.

Neil Thompson It's my pleasure! Thanks for posting and asking for clarification. This is why I'm here! 👍🏻 More than happy to help support you on your journey.

This is an interesting suggestion, and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on how BN might be able to be improved to facilitate your learning experience. 👍🏻 I'm not sure what the best way would be to help facilitate learning this aspect of music notation. When composing in general, I worry that adding a feature which allows nudging notes in one direction or the other could be confusing for people. I'm open to exploring different options to help you learn.
In the meantime, I'm going to film a video for you to explain how the different subdivisions work together to see if this can help facilitate your learning. Please give me a little bit of time to pull this together for you. Thanks!

Derek Lee that’s extremely kind of you! Thank you.

Neil Thompson I started to work on the video today and realized there are some ways in which the recent updates (to add support for dotted-quarter note time signatures) have made the rendered music notation more difficult to understand.. 😅 so I'm going to fix those aspects of the music notation first, then record the video, and then it will make more sense.
This is great feedback from you and definitely an area where Beat Note can be improved to further facilitate understanding of how rhythms work in different subdivisions. 👍🏻 Thanks for your patience while I made these updates! 🙇🏻♂
