Exercise-Title
Hinrich Nagel
Hi Derek,
it would be very helpful, if you could add a title-input-field to each exercise of the ’Single Measures Worksheet‘ (and maybe in the future to other types of worksheets) like the attached mockup-example. It seems, the area right of the exercise-number is empty and not used.
Warm regards
Hinrich

Hi Derek, I saw your comment on the other (now closed) post. Exercise titles or annotations would be useful for worksheets or charts. Here's an example of a worksheet with annotations that I had to hand! Being able to add verse/ chorus labels or rehearsal marks would also be useful.
Would annotation/title box with styling options (to match the function of the annotation) work? Ideally I'd like to be able to add an annotation above any measure if possible (not just the beginning or a line, for example).

In theory I do like this idea as well. However, I’m having a hard time personally trying to figure out the need i personally would have to need to label individual bars. I’m personally having a rough time coming up with examples to be honest. The example you gave was basically cloning like a Rudiments chart. We can find rudiments charts all over the internet. I’m definitely intrigued by the flexibility to have it but the more I think about it, almost everything I’ve created in Beat Note this far wouldn’t even need it. Especially if your beat has like 100-200 measures. It would suck to have a blank title box for each measure to just look at wasting space. I guess outside of creating a personalized rudiments chart I’m having hard time seeing a need for this feature. However, I commented on it because I do like the idea and would like to hear/see more examples of how it could be used. I personally can’t think of any. Also when using “accent” articulations on you hat or cymbal it fills up that space and would get in the way.

Thanks for this request Hinrich Nagel! I've heard similar suggestions from some other users and I'm glad you created this. I'm curious to hear what other people would like to see.
It would be really helpful if you could provide me with some examples of how you would use this. Would it be possible for you to take a screenshot of the app with some beats and mock-up some titles on them for me? 🙇🏻♂️
Hinrich Nagel
Derek LeeOf course it's possible, please look at the attachments.
To my regret in the second picture the 'Open-HiHat-symbol' is overwritten by the exercise-title, so maybe you have to perform some adjustments if you like to use this mockup as a template for your programming work.

Hinrich Nagel This is great, Hinrich, thank you! 🙏 You have some beats you entered from my friend Ralph Rolle!! I met him years ago randomly at a music studio and he was super friendly. I ended up taking some lessons with him whenever he visited here.
So I'm noticing two variations in the examples you included. In the first one, you're using this space as a title for each exercise. However, in the second one, you appear to be more interested in tracking some kind of "completion" or "progress" and also personal notes about your progress ("more practice necessary").
These all seem to be different kinds of notes, and I think there are ways in which Beat Note could support both of these in different ways. I've also heard feedback from some teachers who want to give notes to students, or content creators who want to share beats with notes on them. In order for me to discover the right solution(s), I want to learn more about what everyone else is interested in as well.
Therefore I'd like to ask other voters for this (right now Michael Porath Micheal Czimback Gilles Mercier and anyone else who votes later) to also include examples like you did so I can understand what other users are also hoping to be able to communicate here. 👍🏻
I also want to tag Zak Bond who I'm asking to help facilitate some of these discussions around user needs as well. I know Zak has expressed some interest in adding notes to beats as well in the past.

Derek Lee: I’ve been contemplating this one today and I like the layout Hinrich Nagel has in the mock ups for titles.
Seems there are 3 components to this post. 1) optional titles for each exercise on a worksheet, 2) a progress % system (I imagine a small dial or star), and 3) a space to write notes. Notes are my particular use case, I’ve been considering a thin expandable type of sticky note.

Derek Lee Hi Derek,
in this particular case I was not thinking of exercice sheets, but more when writing/transcribing a song it can be useful to have these "small titles" on some measures to mark the song's part like Part I / bridge / chorus I / guitar solo / and so on ...
Derek Lee
Gilles Mercier Thanks, Gilles! Yes I've received feedback about this from other users as well, and I think the appropriate solution for that is something that allows users to create a song structure. I think this might be easier to have a beat template specific for writing out songs, as I proposed in this idea: https://www.instagram.com/p/C4sJs7lL8ry/?img_index=1

Derek Lee I see this for worksheets that are different independent parts (exercises) of a full practice session. For example, song parts (intro, verse, chorus, bridge) or types of rudiments or bass drum workout variations. I have an example from the past. It's two different "beats" though. Ideally, both would be combined in one worksheet so they can be practiced in one practice session, but independent of each other

Derek LeeI viewed some YouTube-videos from Ralph and I found a very helpful drum lesson of him to master my Double Stroke Roll; the beat of my mockup arise from this video. I never met him personally, but I’m very keen on the manner he did the lesson.
In conclusion to the previous comments to this topic, from my point of view a universal input-field to each beat should solve the most of the listed requirements. And, if you leave off the border of my mockups, it should not be confusing if the input fields stayed empty. (For myself there is also a chance to add lyrics😇)

Gilles Mercier: Hi Gilles Mercier, I went ahead and created a request for the song chart template feature: https://beat-note.canny.io/feature-requests/p/song-chart-template
Please add any additional notes/ideas you might have! Tagging Derek Lee as well.

Zak Bond Thanks Zak ! I upvoted on this request !

Michael Porath Thanks for this feedback! I think this is more appropriate for the Song Chart template: https://roadmap.beat-note.app/feature-requests/p/song-chart-template
